Facilitating the Transfer of Innovations to External Partners

Office of Technology and Commercialization (OTC) staff are ready to assist you determining the commercial potential of your in inventions, ideas, technologies and research. Our experts will lead you through the following steps.

  1. Cutting edge research leads to the generation of novel ideas.
  2. An invention disclosure is submitted to OTC.
  3. OTC meets with the inventor to gather additional information and also reviews any third-party encumbrances associated with the disclosed technology.
  4. OTC performs a technology assessment and determines the patentability, market potential and readiness of the technology for commercialization.
  5. A decision is made to: a) actively market the technology via direct and/or indirect marketing approaches, b) delay a final decision regarding the technology until additional information is produced, or c) not move the technology forward due to lack of commercial viability.
  6. Part of the commercialization plan for a technology moving forward often includes an IP protection strategy (Patent, Copyright, Trademark).
  7. An assessment report is provided to the inventor(s).
  8. OTC oversees the marketing of the technology and identifies a viable commercial partner.
  9. OTC manages the out-licensing of technologies to either an existing company, or to an entrepreneurial partner to establish a new venture.
  10. OTC is responsible for all post-license alliance management, license compliance and distribution of royalties.

Ohio Innovation Exchange, Ohio Department of Higher Education

Local Experts, Equipment and Services

The Ohio Innovation Exchange is a new initiative developed jointly by four major Ohio universities – Case Western Reserve University, Ohio University, The Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati – with sponsorship from the Ohio Department of Higher Education and accompanied by strong industry support through the Ohio Manufacturing Institute. We are delighted to introduce this beta release that provides access to more than 8,250 faculty profiles and 200 resources from the four universities. The purpose of this beta release is to (i) highlight the work completed to date, (ii) demonstrate functionality to other Ohio-based university partners, and (iii) serve as a pre-RFP reference point for potential vendors. In subsequent releases, this innovative knowledge management framework will provide users with interactive tools to connect faculty, staff and students with industry in new information-driven ways.

CEREC leverages the resources and knowledge base of nine CTSA hubs across the nation to enable the efficient exchange of reviewer expertise to support internal pilot funding programs.

Through collaboration, CEREC develops strategies that promote methodological excellence, scientific transparency and innovation while minimizing conflict of interest in the review process of applications for pilot funding opportunities.
