Research Project TimelineThis timeline is a guide to how a research project goes from an idea into regular clinical use/practice. Use these links to go to the resources that the CCTS provides to make each step of the process easier. The Research Concierge is available to assist with any questions. |

PROJECT IDEAThe process begins with the Principal Investigator putting together an idea. Once an idea has been established, the project can begin the process. The next step is assembling a team of researchers to help execute this plan. |

ASSEMBLE A TEAMInformation about assembling a research team can be difficult at a large university like OSU. Logging into the CCTS Collaboration Portal and executing an OSU:Pro search can show how and where to find collaborators or mentors. It is possible to search by department, discipline, technique, or any specific research term. Another option is to go directly to the OSU:Pro Website. read more... |

STUDY DESIGNBiostatistical support for strategic planning, design of clinical trials and laboratory experiments, data analysis, and manuscript preparation is available through the OSU Center for Biostatistics. Research ethics consultation is provided when biostatistical support is requested. To apply for support, fill out and submit the CCTS Research Resources Request Form. Information about clinical and translational research at Nationwide Children's Hospital can be found on the Study Participant Information page under Research Studies at Nationwide Children's, and then clicking on the Information for Investigator's tab. read more... |

RESEARCH FUNDINGTo acquire appropriate funding for a research project, the CCTS can help find funding support. Visit the Funding Sources page to help find external funding sources. The University and the CCTS provide periodic junior faculty and pilot start-up funds through the Novel Clinical and Translational Methodologies Program (contact ccts-methods@osumc.edu) and Pilot Studies. Help can also be found for access to external funding sources with the Administrative Core (contact ccts-admin@osumc.edu). Guidance on meeting regulatory requirements of research projects can be obtained through the Office of Responsible Research Practices. For more information about funding a research project, visit the Funding & Opportunities page, or visit the OSURF or Community of Science websites. read more... |

The Industry Liaison Office (ILO) helps open the channels of communication between researchers and industry. Two-way communication is critical to any successful collaboration, and researchers may not fully understand the needs of industry. It is also true that industry may not fully recognize the university’s immense potential. Researchers have critical information to provide and industry has specific needs that must be met. The ILO can bring these two together and lay the groundwork for a mutually beneficial partnership. Visit the ILO's website for more information.
