Research Resources
Basic and/or clinical investigators at OSU or Nationwide Children's Hospital should use the information found on this page to find the resources needed to design and implement a new research project. The tabs above are designed to make the resources that the CCTS provides easily accessible. Clicking on the tabs above, or in the timeline below, will provide more information and access to each resource.

Research Project Timeline

This timeline is a guide to how a research project goes from an idea into regular clinical use/practice. Use these links to go to the resources that the CCTS provides to make each step of the process easier. The Research Concierge is available to assist with any questions.

PROJECT IDEA

The process begins with the Principal Investigator putting together an idea. Once an idea has been established, the project can begin the process. The next step is assembling a team of researchers to help execute this plan.

ASSEMBLE A TEAM

Information about assembling a research team can be difficult at a large university like OSU. Logging into the CCTS Collaboration Portal and executing an OSU:Pro search can show how and where to find collaborators or mentors. It is possible to search by department, discipline, technique, or any specific research term. Another option is to go directly to the OSU:Pro Website. read more...

STUDY DESIGN

Biostatistical support for strategic planning, design of clinical trials and laboratory experiments, data analysis, and manuscript preparation is available through the OSU Center for Biostatistics. Research ethics consultation is provided when biostatistical support is requested. To apply for support, fill out and submit the CCTS Research Resources Request Form. Information about clinical and translational research at Nationwide Children's Hospital can be found on the Study Participant Information page under Research Studies at Nationwide Children's, and then clicking on the Information for Investigator's tab. read more...

RESEARCH FUNDING

To acquire appropriate funding for a research project, the CCTS can help find funding support. Visit the Funding Sources page to help find external funding sources. The University and the CCTS provide periodic junior faculty and pilot start-up funds through the Novel Clinical and Translational Methodologies Program (contact ccts-methods@osumc.edu) and Pilot Studies. Help can also be found for access to external funding sources with the Administrative Core (contact ccts-admin@osumc.edu). Guidance on meeting regulatory requirements of research projects can be obtained through the Office of Responsible Research Practices. For more information about funding a research project, visit the Funding & Opportunities page, or visit the OSURF or Community of Science websites. read more...

INITIATE PROJECT

The OSU CCTS has a comprehensive research infrastructure to support the conduct of basic and clinical research projects. Related resources include: the Patient and Clinical Interaction Resource (contact ccts-pcir@osumc.edu), the Community Engagement Program (contact ccts-community@osumc.edu), the Translational Technologies Program (contact ccts-technology@osumc.edu), the Office of Regulatory Support (contact ccts-regulatory@osumc.edu), and the Biomedical Informatics Program (contact ccts-informatics@osumc.edu). These resources help to initiate a research project, and are available to OSU and Nationwide Children's researchers/investigators through the CCTS.

DISSEMINATE RESEARCH

Dissemination of research projects is provided by the CCTS through the Biostatistics, Community Engagement, and Tracking & Evaluation programs. To see some of the most recent grants and awards that the CCTS has distributed, visit the CCTS Research Dissemination page. read more...

Studies involving data collection and management will require the CCTS Biomedical Informatics Program to provide the necessary data collection tools and database services. The staff of the program are available to help navigate issues around PHI, the Medical Center Information Warehouse, and national data sources. Requests can be made through ccts-informatics@osumc.edu.
