Who Should Submit?
The call for abstracts is open to faculty, research personnel, extension educators, trainees/scholars, students, administrators, community members and organizations, government agencies, and private foundations with experience or an interest in improving health in communities across the Appalachian Region.
No individual should be first author on more than one abstract.
Submission Fee
There is no cost for abstract submission. However, there is a registration fee to attend the conference.
The registration fee (required for all attendees and presenters) is $25 for students and members of community organizations, government agencies, and private foundations; $75 for faculty, staff, and all others. Registration for the conference will open soon.
For your convenience, we will send out a link to the registration form to everyone who has submitted an abstract. Please ensure that each person attending the conference registers for the conference if you have more than one person from your research team or group planning to attend.
Formatting & Submitting your Abstract
You will submit your abstract on-line, using the following instructions:
- Limit your abstract to 250 words;
- Keep a copy for your records;
- Do not include diagrams, illustrations or other graphic objects in your work.
Based on your on-line submission, your abstract will be evaluated, compiled, and electronically distributed to conference attendees if you are selected.
Content
The 2019 ATRN Health Summit theme is "Working Toward Health Equity in Appalachia: Exploring Solutions."
Given the theme of the Summit, we are most interested in programs, research, and/or community efforts that highlight success in improving the health and wellbeing for those living in the Appalachian Region. Several themes have been identified for the breakout sessions, which are described below.
There will be podium presentations, a poster session, and one "ignite session" (described below). We have also including an "other" category for those who are uncertain which theme their abstract fits best.
Directions for abstract submission:
Please follow these directions when submitting your abstract:
- Abstracts are limited to 250 words (not counting title and the list of presenters)
- Identify themed area most aligned with your work:
- Health equity across the life course: Programs, research, or community work that address the full range of health issues that affect the Appalachian Region through all stages of life, from pregnancy to end of life care.
- Collaborations / How-to's: Here we are looking for a range of submissions. These include papers that explore the community-academic partnership, either through the presentation of examples, lessons learned through the partnership from "both sides," and/or a presentation for those wanting to learn more about these partnerships (i.e. key strategies for success, how to get started, etc.).
- Data-Driven Solutions: Much is being discussed about the use of data in driving community solutions, but we are learning that these approaches come with challenges. Presentations that provide examples of what is working and the challenges associated with these approaches are of high interest.
- Ignite Session: Have an idea? Need a partner? Bring your ideas to this session where you will be given 6 - 8 minutes to "pitch" your ideas/needs to the group with opportunity for feedback.
- Other: Not sure where your project or presentation fits? Submit here!
- Health equity across the life course: Programs, research, or community work that address the full range of health issues that affect the Appalachian Region through all stages of life, from pregnancy to end of life care.
- Include a title and presenter(s) with title and affiliation
- Note if this is for poster only, podium presentation only, either, or ignite session
- Submissions are due by July 15, 2019 at 11:59pm, with notification of acceptance by August 7, 2019.
