Physician Scientist Retention
CCTS Partnering with College of Medicine on Grant to support early-career faculty impacted by COVID-19
The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation joined with with the American Heart Association , the Burroughs Welcome Fund , the John Templeton Foundation , the Rita Allen Foundation, and the Walder Foundation to create a program that has awarded $550,000 each to The Ohio State University College of Medicine and 21 other medical schools across the country to support research productivity and career retention of early-stage physician scientists who have be adversely affected by COVID-19.
The CCTS's own Dr. Rebecca Jackson is a co-PI and is providing admin support to the program. The awardees will receive custom designed packages to fit their specific needs that will include CCTS voucher support for accessing CCTS and other research support services.
The Physician Scientist Retention in Research Support-FRCS award is available to:
- Early career physician scientists (full time Assistant Professor with MD, DO or foreign equivalent degree) with clinical responsibilities at OSU Wexner Medical Center (WMC)
- With internally and/or externally funded clinical research
- With ≥40% research effort.
Physician Scientist Retention in Research Support -FRCS award benefits:
- Overall financial support will range from $30,000 to $50,000 per awardee.
- Individualized Research Support Plan.
- Timely research and career support services tailored to specific needs
- Research core vouchers, support for medical illustration, scientific editing, grant application and grants management technical support, etc.
- Education and training needed to sustain retention in research such as project management, time management skills and/or resiliency training
- Stress reduction resources, research and career mentorship, one-on-one coaching
- Identification of collaborators and facilitation of research networking
- The OSU CCTS also offers CCTS KL2 and other OSU K scholars the opportunity to participate in a “Launch to Success Grant Writing Workshop” aimed at submission of an R grant.
