Responsible Conduct of Research Training
The responsible conduct of research (RCR) is essential to good science. RCR promotes the aims of scientific inquiry, fosters a research environment that enables scientists to work together toward common goals, and promotes public confidence in scientific knowledge and progress for the public good.
In order to ensure that funded research is carried out responsibly, the National Institutes of Health requires that all trainees, fellows, participants and scholars receiving support through any NIH training, career development award (individual or institutional), research education grant and dissertation research grant must receive instruction in responsible conduct of research at each stage of their training and career development (graduate student, postdoc, faculty).
In addition, the NIH requires this RCR training to take place face-to-face and involve didactic and discussion components. The NIH also requires the training to cover specific topics. The NIH requirements are outlined here.
The document downloadable below lists a variety of courses and other trainings offered at Ohio State and Nationwide Children's Hospital that fulfill the NIH requirements for RCR training. Researchers are urged to use this content when writing training and other grants in which they must specify the RCR training they will pursue. Researchers may also use this list to find training they need for immediate training needs.
