Research Support Grant
Supporting early career physician scientists who have experienced significant unexpected increase in family caregiving responsibilities that disrupt research and career progression
This new Physician Scientist Retention in Research Support opportunity is part of a collaborative effort between the OSU College of Medicine Physician Scientist Initiative and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science to establish a Physician Scientist Research Support Hub. The Physician Scientist Retention in Research Support awards are designed to provide OSUWMC physician scientists experiencing unanticipated increase in family caregiving responsibilities (such as those precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic) with timely research and career support that will help sustain their research careers. The award criteria specified below aligns with the requirements of a new funding sponsor that spearheaded this program and permitted initiation of the pilot program in advance of the announcement of award to OSU.

The Physician Scientist Retention in Research Support-FRCS award is available to:
- Early career physician scientists (full time Assistant Professor with MD, DO or foreign equivalent degree) with clinical responsibilities at OSU Wexner Medical Center (WMC)
- With internally and/or externally funded clinical research
- With ≥40% research effort.
Physician Scientist Retention in Research Support -FRCS award benefits:
- Overall financial support will range from $30,000 to $50,000 per awardee.
- Individualized Research Support Plan.
- Timely research and career support services tailored to specific needs
- Research core vouchers, support for medical illustration, scientific editing, grant application and grants management technical support, etc.
- Education and training needed to sustain retention in research such as project management, time management skills and/or resiliency training
- Stress reduction resources, research and career mentorship, one-on-one coaching
- Identification of collaborators and facilitation of research networking
- The OSU CCTS also offers CCTS KL2 and other OSU K scholars the opportunity to participate in a “Launch to Success Grant Writing Workshop” aimed at submission of an R grant.
