CCTS
Biomedical research that translates new discoveries into best clinical practices demands a robust and unique educational and training experience. The overall goal of the Research Education, Training, and Career Development Program is to establish and cultivate an institution-wide learning environment that is inherently linked to all aspects of the CCTS by creating a “Virtual College” of clinical and translational science education. This will be achieved through a progressive expansion of current basic, clinical, and translational science education and training programs. The OSU CCTS promotes a scientific culture of collaboration between basic, clinical and translational scientists through mentoring, modeling and creation of a common learning environment within the central facilities of the CCTS.
Current degree offerings supported by the CCTS include the MPH in Clinical Investigation, the PhD in Translational Research, and the MS in Medical Science. These unique programs combine comprehensive training in the population health sciences with the principles and practices of clinical and translational research. Two new degree programs are being developed: the PhD in Implementation Science focusing on the pathways that lead from generation of knowledge (basic discovery) to adoption as best practice; and a MS in Medical and Translational Science in Biomedical Informatics that develops a strong foundation in biomedical science for biomedical informaticians.
The Research Education, Training, and Career Development Program offers two training programs: TL1 for students pursuing graduate education and training in clinical and translational science; and the KL2 for junior faculty conducting patient-oriented and/or translational research. Additionally, the Research Education Program offers seminars, workshops, and practicums focused on developing translational research skills and fostering new collaborations amongst basic scientists and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines.
More information on the Education and Training Program can be found on the TL1 Program and the KL2 Program pages of this website.
The Office of Research Training, Education, and Communication is offering online workshops discussing the roles and responsibilities of being a principal investigator.
This is an introductory overview of the various Office of Research support units and the services they provide to researchers. To watch the online training videos, or for more details, visit the Office of Research Training, Education, and Communication website.
The practice of personalized health care might be closer than it seems. Speaking as the latest installment of the OSU Department of Statistics Chhotey Lal and Mohra Devi Memorial Lecture Series, Dr. Gregory Campbell discussed the promise of individualized medical care tailored to each patient. The OSU Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is seeking applicants for the NIH CTSA TL1 Mentored Clinical Research Training Program. The overall goal of the CCTS TL1 Program is to provide Trainees with the skills required to develop a career in trans-disciplinary clinical and translational research relevant to human health.
